‘Muslims are worse than animals. I refuse to sit near them’ – 40,000 people expected for London festival and book launch of Muslim-hater (Updated)

Posted on June 24, 2017

Not a nice title is it? You must be one nasty bugger to say something like that about Muslims.

But the comments are not actually about Muslims – that was just to grab your attention. They are about gay people. And made by a man called Ismail Menk (cue silence from identity politics ridden anti-fascists and 5Pillars).

Menk is a Deobandi scholar from Zimbabwe. Harry’s Place highlighted some of his views on gay people during his previous visits to Britain:

“With all due respect to the animals, they are worse than those animals, may Allah protect us. Remember, we are saying here due respect to the animals, because animals, it is an insult to them to even suggest this to them. Automatically the dogs and the pigs do not engage in this. Automatically, by nature. We ask Allah to safeguard us.” (Update at bottom of page)

How about this nice little story?

“I was on a flight one day. I met a man and I greeted him and so on. I was coming from Cape Town. And he told me, I said “what’s your name”. He said Suleiman. Oh mashallah, this that, what what. Then we got talking and he started speaking about things. I told him also “how many children do you have?”. He looked about sixty. It’s a true story. And he told me “oh, I, uh, this is my partner”. I said “who?”. He said “Hussein, next to me”. Suleiman married Hussein. He said the imam did the nikah [marriage]! Allahu akbar!

I asked him one question and I am going to tell it to you because we are living in an age where we need to know. I said “look, I don’t mean to be bad. I am about to change my seat because I am feeling a bit nauseous.” He says “you know what? We can actually get you locked up.” I said “for what?”. He said “because you are discriminating.” I said “what are you talking about? You can’t do that. I am feeling nauseous sitting next to you.

In some countries it is prohibited to actually look down upon that [homosexuality]. And in some countries the school syllabus has in it that you need to teach the children that these people are absolutely normal and if you have this type of inclination there is no harm and no problem. This is what is being taught, forcefully, to the children of the Muslims! Across the globe, in certain countries. May Allah safeguard us. May we never see such days in our places.”

His views on punishments for extra-marital and pre-marital sex are of the Taliban variety:

“There are two punishments. One is the stoning to death of a person who has been married in the past, or is correctly married and they commit zina. The shariah says such a person should be stoned to death. That is there. There is no doubt, no debate.”

“80 lashes, or up to a hundred lashes for the adulterer or the adulteress, those who have committed adultery and they have not been married in the past, or they are not married with a correct nikah…As I said, and I’m repeating it again today, the punishment regarding those who’ve committed adultery, in the sharia, yes it is a punishment, whether it is the stoning to death of those who have been married or are married, or whether it is whipping and lashing of those who have not been married, we must not deny that it is the penal code.”

“Only where the shariah is being implemented and there is a court that adopts the shariah and implements it, those are the only places where these punishments shall be executed.”

Muslims who disagree with stoning people to death are idiots:

“Nowadays we have people who say ‘You know what? That’s not in the Quran. That’s not Islam.‘ Why do you want to justify things when you know that the shariah has no loopholes? Ask those who can explain it to you.”

Menk will be appearing at Eid In Excel in London tomorrow to launch his new book.

The organisers, Iman Channel, have billed the event as “London’s largest Eid gathering”:

Menk isn’t the only face at Eman Channel with nasty views on homosexuality. Other guests and presenters at the Sky channel have voiced opinions on what should happen to gay people found guilty of having sex. Here’s Alomgir Ali:

“There is a consensus that it is crime to commit homosexuality in shariah. They differ as to the methods of punishment.”

“The companions and four schools of thought all agreed about the criminal nature. That is qat’i [convincing] enough.”

Hamza Tzortzis:

“Most Western countries have laws that prevent the sexual abuse of children, polyandry and cannibalism. If it were argued that these crimes were really an expression of human nature, most would reject them as completely inappropriate actions.”

“Islam, like many other spiritual traditions, argues that homosexuality is not the right way to manifest the instinct of procreation. It is a behaviour that negates the Islamic vision of society which is one of extended families connected by marriage between men and women. Hence Islam has viewed the public expression of homosexuality as a crime and as a result has placed a mechanism in which to protect its vision for society.”

“Do you believe that rape and murder are relatively bad? Surely not, that would indicate that they can also be relatively good! Hence those who claim that making homosexuality a criminal act is wrong are totally inconsistent as they would have to objectively show that it is wrong – however they can not do that because, as discussed, that would mean they would have to believe in God – in any case, God says its wrong.”

And Haitham al-Haddad:

Haddad is unashamedly outspoken against homosexuality:

“…we are living in the era of homosexuality… I am against homosexuality, this is me…maybe post-post-post-homosexuality we will have, as we mentioned yesterday, a man looking for an animal life partner.”

Homosexuality is a ‘scourge’ that need to be combated:

“Some absurdly argue that homosexual inclinations are inherited through one’s genetics. However ridiculous such a claim may be, even if accepted for the argument’s sake, it still does not justify the criminal act…In order to combat the scourge of homosexuality Allah has ordained us to speak out…”

And more than just a sin:

“Islam considers homosexuality as a sin, in fact a major sin. And in the Islamic state it is considered to be a crime as well.”

How serious a crime?

“…it might be worse than a murder, these homosexual activities.”

Pro-gay rights Muslims may have removed themselves from the fold of Islam:

“…there is this gay Imam in America who claims that there is no authentic dalil to prohibit a man from being homosexual, there is nothing wrong with homosexuality in Islam. And he is an Imam and he is proud to be gay.”

“…those Muslims who believe that homosexuality is allowed in Islam, yeah? Those Muslims have committed something that might be considered as kufr or taking them out of the fold of Islam because they have rejected al-Quran.”

Such Muslims should sit before a council:

“…a proper Islamic body should decide whether they are still Muslims or not.”

And their families should disown them:

“…their families, it will be haram for them, if it has been established that they have left the fold of Islam and they can not be considered as Muslims, if their families…if their spouses are considering themselves as Muslims, then they should not continue having any kind of relationship with them because it is haram to have a relationship with a person who denounced his deen, his religion, denounced al-Islam.”

Ex-Muslims will face the death penalty:

“Leaving Islam will change everything. It includes changing the political allegiance, the social life, so it is treachery to Islam. If he has committed that then, in an Islamic state, before an Islamic court, it is like the punishment of treason…it’s capital punishment.”

And how amazing is that?

“I found a statement, amazing statement, from Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah where he said that during that time, those who used to apostate they were not committing an act of treason…the Islamic State at that time was so strong they can not commit anything against the Islamic state. So they were killed just because they apostate.”

People often assume the kind of views expressed above about stoning people to death and executing ex-Muslims and gay people are confined to groups such as ISIS or the Taliban, or fringe individuals such as Anjem Choudary.

Eman Channel are expecting 40,000 punters to turn up tomorrow.

Update 1

Menk had already retracted his ‘animals’ comment on his website:

“On the issue of LGBT, let me clarify that I’m not homophobic. The statement I made back in 2011 which had me saying, “With all due respect to the animals, they are worse than those animals” was based on a misguided notion. I no longer believe that to be true. I make a full retraction of that statement.”

Fair play to him for that. And my apologies to the man for not searching around for a retraction before knocking up this post.

5Pillars quoted Menk’s Facebook status:

“The truth is that I have never promoted hatred, violence or intolerance against gays or any others for that matter.”

This is clearly bollocks.

Menk also adds:

“The only difference is with those who say Islam allows gay behaviour.”

I shall ask Menk how Islam prevents gay ‘behaviour’ and if he also wants to retract his other statements about homosexuality and stoning people to death. I’ll post any response here.

Update 2

I’m not knocking Abdurraheem Green’s cooking skills (Eman Channel have kindly given him his own slot, My Mum’s Cookbook) but his views on homosexuality and stoning aren’t too clever:

“…it [gay sex] is one of those things that has a proscribed punishment in Islamic law for people who are found participating in this what is to be considered to be an unnatural act.”

“Adultery is punishable by death, and a slow and painful death by stoning. It is indicative of just how harmful this crime is to society…acts of homosexuality are similarly treated so harshly.”

“It’s a criminal offence in England to revile someone because of their homosexuality. So now it has been made a crime to hate the crime. Can we accept this as Muslims? Can we say that Islam is compatible with this? Does any person in this room think that this type of ideology is compatible with what Allah has revealed? I hope not.”

“That is democracy, the rule of the people. So if they want to make homosexuality halal, they make it halal. If they want to make beer halal, they make it halal…if they want to make it compulsory for you to experience some, you know, homosexuality, ’cause after all it’s natural, they tell us now yes? They can make it law, they’ll make it law.”

“We want to create an environment where it is encouraging people to be good, otherwise what is the point in the hudood? What is the hudood? Why you chop the hand off the thief? Why you stone the adulterer and the adulteress to death? Why do you chop the hand and the leg of the one who commits highway robbery and leave them to bleed to death or crucify them? All of this is to deter the people from being evil and committing evil. Why is the person who drinks alcohol, who is a drunk, whipped eighty times in public? All of this is to deter the people from being evil.”
